The Wells Fargo Silver Reef Monument |
Welcome to the Web Site of the Wells Fargo Silver Reef Monument in Leeds, Utah. One of the authentic ghost towns of the old west, which is listed on the National Historic Register. This is one of the few ghost towns that is actually "alive" with a staff of volunteers and concerned business that are over seeing the protection and preservation of this famous mining town. Visiting Silver Reef is an adventure itself. Driving into the old town you'll immediately recognize old foundations poking out from the sagebrush. You'll see the crumbling remains of house walls and remnants of the mining equipment that kept this town alive in the 1880's. You can visit the restored Wells Fargo coach stop where the museum and visitor's center is located. Two other restored buildings are the Rice Building & Cosmopolitan Restaurant. With a map in hand you can explore the many mining sites, the old mill locations, and the Catholic and Protestant cemeteries. Bring your camera, Silver Reef is situated beneath the picturesque red rock cliffs of Southern Utah. |
